9. Halloween 2 (2009, Rob Zombie)
I may be alone when I say I really enjoyed the Rob Zombie spin on Halloween and if I'm completely honest I had no problem with the way his sequel turned out either. However, in the grand scheme of things it is too much of a departure from everything that made the original movies so cool (even the bad ones), and therefore sits very low in the list. The film starts out very similar to the 1981 version of Halloween 2, with Michael stalking his sister in a hospital. Sadly, Zombie chose to make this an extended dream sequence, which is always a poor misdirection technique that served only to piss off the audience. The main film instead picks up where the first Zombie installment left off, with a bloodied Laurie wandering the streets of Haddonfield covered in blood and her brother's apparently dead body being loaded into the back of an ambulance. In typical Michael Myers fashion, the psychopath does not wish to stay dead and after the ambulance crashes he manages to escape again. It isn't long before the bodies start piling up once more. Throughout the film, Michael's mother appears in the form of a spooky vision suggesting that it is she who has guided him throughout his mission of murder. After surviving the first attack by her brother Laurie - who we find out is actually Angel Myers - begins experiencing the same visions leading us to believe that she has some kind of psychic link to her brother that makes them far more similar than she'd like to think. Eventually Myers finds himself surrounded by police while hiding out in a shed. After following instruction from his mother's ghost, Myers kills Dr. Loomis - a massive douchebag in this version of the story - and is then gunned down for the last time by the local police. With Michael incapacitated, Laurie takes the opportunity to put him out his misery for good by sinking a knife into his face. But this does not free her from her nightmare as the film closes with her in a psychiatric hospital smiling to herself as the ghost of her birth mother stands beside her, suggesting a whole new killing spree may begin very soon...
