Halloween Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Most Of The New Characters Are Totally Dull
The new Halloween follows a new cast of characters for the most part and sadly, the majority of them are incredibly stock and uninteresting.
From Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) personality-devoid granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) to her gang of equally forgettable friends - who are lent a bizarre amount of screen time - two throwaway reporter characters solely intended to set the plot in motion and a fleet of no-name cops, they all feel so basic, lazily conceived and unimaginative.
The only especially interesting new characters are Officer Hawkins (Will Patton) who has a 40-year link to Michael Myers, and the "new Loomis", Dr. Ranbir Sartain (Haluk Bilginer), and even they're pushing it.
Most disappointing of all is that the brilliant Judy Greer's talents are mostly squandered in yet another thankless movie franchise role - after forgettable maternal roles in Jurassic World and Ant-Man - with her part as Laurie's daughter Karen proving intermittently intriguing at best.
