Han Solo Movie: Everything You Need To Know
5. It Doesn’t Have Much To Tie Into...
Compared to Rogue One (which had to set up Leia on a mission to reach Obi-Wan, the Death Star plans being stolen and Vader on the warpath), the Han Solo movie doesn't have to tie in with anything whatsoever. With ten years distance between this story and A New Hope, it doesn't even need to get Han and Chewie to Mos Eisley. The don't even need to be together when the credits roll.
The creative team can do whatever they like with this one. The only lines drawn by continuity are that Han, Chewie and Lando can't die, and they can't interact with characters they meet for the first time in later films (e.g. Han can't have a meet-cute with Leia, or Luke, because that would be way out of place). Anything else is fair game - betrayals, twists, supporting character deaths and massive fallings out are all potential plot points.
This could make for a thrilling yarn full of unfamiliar characters with murky motivations, set on distant planets that don't have pre-assigned fates. Han, Chewie and Lando are the only returning characters confirmed as of yet, and two of those three have been known to make shocking decisions. This could be the least predictable Star Wars movie yet.
