Harry Potter: 10 Amazing Chapters That Aren’t In The Movies
4. Padfoot Returns (The Goblet Of Fire)
After the events of the Second Task, Harry, Ron, and Hermione go to Hogsmeade and meet Sirius in a hidden cave.
The four of them discuss all the strange events that have happened recently, including the Quidditch World Cup and the disappearance of Barty Crouch. What’s clever about this chapter is how it links to the twist at the end of the novel when Mad-Eye Moody’s true identity is revealed.
Sirius – as well as theorising about what really happened at the Quidditch World Cup – talks about Crouch’s dark past and how this senior politician’s entire career was tarnished when his son (Barty Crouch Junior) was taken to Azkaban. It’s a fascinating tale, but Sirius’s retelling has one major flaw. Unbeknown to him (and the rest of the magical world), Crouch’s son didn’t die in prison: he escaped from Azkaban using Polyjuice Potion.
You can understand why this chapter was left out of the movie, as it isn’t essential to the plot. But for those who love the books, this chapter is an underrated gem that takes on a new meaning when you read it for a second time.
