Elves have a firm fixture in fantasy, as saying the word often conjures up specific images. To a Middle-Earth fan, they'll picture a luscious haired being who's essentially perfect, whereas a holiday lover will imagine cute little ones dancing about Santa's workshop. But, for Harry Potter fans, it's something else entirely.
The Chamber of Secrets brought house elves into the world and established them as inherent servants. Poor Dobby was a loveable guy with a sweet voice and charming personality, but he was the victim of the Malfoy family's cruelty as he served under them.
His journey in the second movie was compelling, as you watched him help the lead however he could, and eventually receive his freedom, leading to the iconic line "Dobby is a free elf!".
Naturally, thinking about Dobby nowadays is more likely to make you cry than laugh, as his unfortunate demise in the first half of the Deathly Hallows is one of the most emotional in the series. Still, going out like that is one hell of a way to prove your worth.
