9. Buckbeak
Buckbeak is one of the most loveable creatures in the Potterverse. Introduced in The Prisoner of Azkaban, this beautiful hippogriff makes an appearance in Harry’s first Care of Magical Creatures class.
Harry soon gets over his initial fear of this intimidating creature and, with Hagrid’s guidance, forms a bond with Buckbeak. In the film adaptation, Buckbeak even takes Harry on a flight around the Hogwarts grounds.
Despite this, Buckbeak isn’t a tame animal. Malfoy’s arrogance prompts a violent response from the hippogriff, and before long he’s facing execution due to Lucius Malfoy’s influence. Luckily, Hermione’s Time-Turner comes to the rescue and Buckbeak escapes from the castle with Sirius Black before returning to Hagrid later on in the series.
Buckbeak has no dialogue, of course, but it doesn’t really matter. He’s a loveable hippogriff with a fierce sense of loyalty.
