5. Fawkes
Dumbledore is a wise, sophisticated, and powerful wizard, and it’s only fitting that his pet should reflect such a personality - but Fawkes is more than simply a pet.
As a phoenix, Fawkes is capable of lifting heavy loads and healing wounds with his tears. Using such abilities, he saves Harry and the others whilst they’re down in the Chamber of Secrets and transports them back to safety.
Fawkes is also very useful during Dumbledore’s fight with Voldemort, when he swallows the Dark Lord’s Killing Curse in order to save his master. And given he’s a phoenix, this sacrifice doesn’t even kill him. Instead, he is simply reborn from the ashes.
It’s not clear what happened to Fawkes after Dumbledore’s funeral - he may have joined his own kind or he could have found a new master - but regardless of where he ended up, no student or teacher will ever forget this beautiful creature.
