In The Order of the Phoenix, Harry learns more about his neighbour. Though she’s a Squib, she’s also in contact with Dumbledore and keeps an eye on Harry when he’s away from Hogwarts. Such a revelation comes as a massive shock to Harry, who always thought of Mrs. Figg as an old and slightly batty neighbour.

What's more, it’s amusing to see Mrs. Figg’s reaction to Dudley. Far from being sympathetic, she whacks Dudley around the head with her handbag. Mrs. Figg crops up again at Harry’s hearing and adds yet more comedy to the story during the Ministry’s interrogation.

Sure, Mrs. Figg doesn’t play a massive part in the series, but the twist involving her character is hard to predict.
