Harry Potter: 10 Heroic Acts Committed By Slytherins

7. Horus Slughorn – Gave Harry A Vital Memory

Horus Slughorn was first introduced in The Half-Blood Prince and it was immediately clear he was not a typical Slytherin. Whilst Slughorn certainly admired the powerful and the ambitious, he was also kind-hearted and jovial.

But long before the events of Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts, he taught Tom Riddle. Riddle had a close connection with the Potions Master and approached him about the possibility of making more than one Horcrux. Though Slughorn was shocked Riddle was interested in such dark magic, he reluctantly answered his questions.

Naturally, Slughorn was ashamed of his exchange with Riddle and did his utmost to hide this conversation. But with a little help from Felix Felicis (the lucky potion), Harry managed to persuade Slughorn to offer him the truth. Whilst there’s no denying he was reluctant to give out this information, Slughorn’s bravery ultimately outweighed his fear.
