Harry Potter: 10 Heroic Acts Committed By Slytherins

2. Severus Snape – Risked His Life To Protect Harry

Snape and Dumbledore were the perfect double-act. They conspired against the Dark Lord for years, and thanks to his knack for Occlumency, Snape’s true allegiance was never discovered by Voldemort.

The source of Snape’s unwavering loyalty was his affection for Harry’s mother. He’d been friends with Lily since they were both children and he never stopped loving her throughout their years at Hogwarts. Understandably, Snape was distraught by Lily’s death and swore to protect her son so that she had not died in vain.

Way back in The Philosopher’s Stone, he protected Harry during his first Quidditch match, and he continued to watch over him throughout the series. In The Prisoner of Azkaban, for instance, he rushed to Harry’s aid in the Shrieking Shack, and in The Order of the Phoenix, he gave Umbridge fake Veritaserum when she was interviewing Harry. He played an even greater role in The Deathly Hallows when he sent Harry Gryffindor’s sword and revealed the truth about Voldemort’s seventh Horcrux.

It’s a shame, therefore that Snape received such an unpleasant death. Indeed, such a brave and loyal individual deserved a much more dignified ending.
