Harry Potter: 10 Magical Potions With CRAZY Effects

1. Gregory's Unctuous Unction

Effect: Whoever consumes the potion will believe that the person who gave it to them is their best friend.

Seen In: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (video game), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (video game).

Created by Gregory The Smarmy, Gregory's Unctuous Unction (hey, we don't come up with the names) is quite possibly the most powerful potion in the wizarding world that nobody seems inclined to utilise.

It sounds like a similar strain of magic to that of the Imperius Curse (or a Love Potion), which allows the caster to control the target. The Unctuous Unction isn't quite that strong, but because it will make the drinker think that you are their best friend, whoever wields the potion is able to get literally anyone they choose to be on their side.

If Harry slipped some to Voldemort? They're now the best of buds! If Sirius gave some to Bellatrix? That's a happy family reunion right there! While we don't know for sure how long the effects of the potion last - or how difficult it is to brew - it could genuinely turn the tide of any conflict, by transforming sworn enemies into great friends.

Overpowered is an understatement.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
