Harry Potter: 10 Magical Potions With CRAZY Effects

9. Babbling Beverage

Harry Potter Professor Slughorn Felix Felicis
Jam City

Effect: Causes the drinker to start talking nonsense.

Seen In: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (novel/video game), Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

A politician's drink of choice, the Babbling Beverage results in the consumer speaking complete and utter gobbledegook for an unspecified period of time.

This particular potion was actually mentioned in the books a few times (in The Order of the Phoenix, the Patil twins brewed up a batch and used it on Professor Umbridge's loudspeakers, in an attempt to undermine her authority), but the movies never showed its effects on camera, though we imagine it would result in something like the Steve Carell gibberish meltdown scene from Bruce Almighty.

Like the Hair-Raising Potion, the Babbling Beverage seems entirely useless, but at the same time, it's so wild and weird that it easily earns its spot on this list.

There's also a curse called the Babbling Curse that produces a similar effect, so witches and wizards the world over are very well-equipped when it comes to getting their enemies to jabber like primitive cavemen/drunk football hooligans.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
