Harry Potter: 10 Magical Potions With CRAZY Effects

4. Skele-Gro

Harry Potter Professor Slughorn Felix Felicis
Warner Bros. Pictures

Effect: Regrows missing bones and mends broken ones.

Seen In: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (novel/film/video game), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (novel), Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

While the effects of Skele-Gro are truly extraordinary, they do come at a cost: namely, the potion's horrific taste and foul smell. Strawberry Calpol, this is not.

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the Boy Who Lived was forced to chug a dose of the medicine after the bumbling Gilderoy Lockhart accidentally made the bones in his arm vanish. "It burned Harry’s mouth and throat as it went down, making him cough and splutter", is how the book describes the experience.

It's definitely not a pleasant thing to drink.

But despite that caveat, Skele-Gro is one of the strongest potions in the wizarding world. The ability to fix and even re-grow entire bones in an incredibly short time-span (the process can be finished in 24 hours) is crazy, something that likely cannot be matched by even the most advanced of spells, or other magical techniques.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
