Harry Potter: 10 Magical Potions With CRAZY Effects

3. Felix Felicis

Harry Potter Professor Slughorn Felix Felicis
Warner Bros. Pictures

Effect: Makes the drinker lucky for a short period of time.

Seen In: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (novel/film/video game), Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, LEGO Harry Potter.

One of the most famous potions among Potter fans - partly due to its catchy and memorable name - Felix Felicis provides the drinker with the insanely overpowered benefit of increased luck.

It's a beverage we've seen quite a lot of, too: Harry first encountered it in The Half-Blood Prince, where Professor Slughorn awarded him with a small vial of the stuff. Mr. Potter then pretended to give some to Ron, which increased the latter's confidence and made him perform exceptionally well during his next Quidditch match.

But Harry's first proper use of the potion came later in the school year, when he took a small swig to increase his chances of acquiring an important memory from Slughorn's mind. He later gave some to Ron, Hermione and Ginny, in order to protect them from a Death Eater attack on Hogwarts School.

Unlike Baruffio's Brain Elixir, there's no doubt whatsoever that Felix Felicis actually works. It's incredibly difficult to make though - people can't just constantly brew it - but it does make you wonder why there isn't a bigger market for something so useful.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
