7. Harry Encounters Voldemort In The Forbidden Forest – The Philosopher’s Stone
Harry’s first year at Hogwarts contained a number of anxiety-inducing moments, the scariest of which was his venture into the Forbidden Forest alongside Malfoy and Fang.
The forest is creepy enough without all of the creatures that live there. The large trees, the finger-like roots, and the winding pathway give the place an eerie atmosphere. And when Harry and Malfoy eventually find the dead unicorn they’ve been looking for, they also encounter the Dark Lord himself.
Voldemort then turns, his mouth dripping with unicorn blood, and walks forwards. Malfoy and Fang, meanwhile, bolt away as fast as they can and abandon our hero as Voldemort edges closer and closer.
Luckily, Firenze (a centaur) arrives on the scene and forces the Dark Lord to flee, but those few short seconds beforehand remain the most disturbing moment in The Philosopher’s Stone.
