Harry Potter: 10 Most Anxiety-Inducing Movie Moments

6. Harry Retrieves Gryffindor’s Sword – The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Following a narrow escape from Nagini in Godric’s Hollow, Harry and Hermione recover from their ordeal in the Forest of Dean. Whilst on watch duty, Harry then notices a corporeal Patronus in the shape of a doe and follows it to a pool which contains Gryffindor’s sword.

Aware that the sword is capable of destroying Horcruxes, Harry strips off and dives into the icy pool to retrieve it. The chilling temperature of the water is enough on its own to make this scene uncomfortable to watch. But the situation becomes still more desperate as the Horcrux around Harry’s neck starts to fight back. And despite his thrashing, he continues to suffocate beneath the surface of the pool.

This moment is essentially a more desperate, painful version of Harry’s experience with the Inferi in the cave. What’s more, in both instances he’s rescued in the nick of time. But rather than being saved by Dumbledore, it’s Ron who comes to Harry’s aid.
