Harry Potter: 10 Of The Best Movie Tracks

5. Fawkes the Phoenix - John Williams

AFawkes

Another track from the Chamber of Secrets, Fawkes€™ theme is perhaps the most memorable original melody from the film, and with good reason! Almost the complete opposite to Lockhart€™s theme this one is a floaty celebration of Harry€™s magical world. Despite representing a lot of the schmaltz that the haters point at this tune is just so uplifting that it truly earns its spot on the list.

The tune reflects the life cycle of a phoenix in a way. Taking the listener through a hopeful, yet slightly quiet rendition of the melody then rising in the middle to a dramatic and dangerous, crashing tune that makes one think of Harry€™s fear as he watches his headmaster€™s pet burn. Then we are relieved as the main melody returns, louder and stronger than before symbolizing Fawkes€™ return to life, birthing from the ashes. It is not only a great piece of soundtrack but a great track to listen to on its own.
