Harry Potter: 10 Terrible Acts Committed By Hogwarts Professors

7. Horace Slughorn – Told Tom Riddle About Horcruxes

The young Tom Riddle had a knack for manipulation. He was respected by his teachers and his fellow students throughout his time at Hogwarts and everyone (except Dumbledore) thought he was an admirable and charming pupil.

During his sixth year, Riddle questioned Professor Slughorn about Horcruxes and learned it was possible to create more than one. With such information, he went on to create six Horcruxes (not including Harry).

In fairness to Slughorn, he had no idea what the repercussions of this conversation would be. From his perspective, Riddle was an unusually gifted yet likeable student simply asking for a bit of extra information.

Still, as easy as it is to forgive Slughorn, there’s no getting away from the fact his decision to tell Riddle about Horcruxes had severe consequences.
