Harry Potter: 10 Times JK Rowling Admitted To Changing Her Plans
3. The Plans To Kill Ron
While some other stories have killed far more characters in more shocking scenarios, few would suggest that JK Rowling feared the death of her characters both large and small. She killed Lupin and Tonks when they were the parents of a new baby, had Dumbledore thrown to his death and even murdered an innocent owl while she was trapped in a cage.
However, she kept Harry, Ron and Hermione alive, and apparently that is what she planned from the beginning. That said, she has revealed in interviews that she came dangerously close to ending Ron's role in the stories... "out of sheer spite."
In a conversation filmed between Rowling and Daniel Radcliffe, who was convinced that one of them wouldn't make it, she explained:
"Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die. Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn't in a very happy place, I started thinking I might polish one of them off. Out of sheer spite. 'There, now you definitely can't have him any more.' But I think in my absolute heart of heart of hearts, although I did seriously consider killing Ron, I wouldn't have done it."
