Harry Potter: 10 Ways The Muggle World Would Inevitably Discover Wizards

7. Political Influence

When the return of Voldemort was finally made public to the wizarding community in Order of the Phoenix, Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt was assigned to guard the Muggle Prime Minister, protecting him from being attacked by Dark Forces. The PM praised Shacklebolt to Fudge in Half-Blood Prince, but objected feebly when he discovered that Shacklebolt was a wizard. But it does beg speculation on how much the Ministry of Magic has infiltrated all levels of Muggle government. Petunia€™s letter to Hogwarts (Deathly Hallows) was sent by Muggle post, but made its way to Hogwarts anyway. Agents for the Regulation of Magical Creatures and other departments would need to infiltrate their counterparts in the Muggle bureaucracy in order to keep tabs on what needs to be fixed or removed from Muggle records. Aurors would need to be assigned to Muggle police agencies to monitor incidents that might involve wizards. Even with the existence of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts, most wizards seem to be clueless about the Muggle world. What kind of qualifications would a wizard have to have to work these kinds of jobs? It€™s also possible that, using spells and potions, wizards could influence Muggle political decision making in ways that benefit them, either personally or as a whole, for good or evil. It would certainly explain some of our crazier politicians.
