Harry Potter: 10 Ways The Muggle World Would Inevitably Discover Wizards

4. Law Enforcement

Most of the sub-ministries within the Ministry of Magic seem to be involved in the regulation of the use of magic in one way or another, policing everything from the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts to Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The Ministry even has its own S.W.A.T. team in the Aurors, who specialize in fighting Dark Magic. (Which begs the question: Voldemort notwithstanding, is there really that much dark magic being practiced out there?) But what about those times when violations of magical law are observed by Muggles? The murder of Amelia Bones a few blocks away from Downing Street in Half-Blood Prince and the unexplained deaths of the Riddles in Goblet of Fire were recorded by Muggle police and were the subjects of newspaper reporting and Muggle gossip. Even as people move on to the next scandal, those items are tucked away in unsolved case files. Sooner or later, someone will make the connection. Whose job is it to monitor and regulate that?
