Harry Potter: 10 Ways The Muggle World Would Inevitably Discover Wizards

3. Religion

There seems to be some secular observance of religious holidays in the wizarding world, with Hogwarts students being given time off to go home at Christmas if they desire; or given a week€™s respite from classes during the Easter break. But in a world filled with ghosts, poltergeists, and ethereal visits by those who have €œgone on,€ there is no mention of organized religion. (That€™s one of the points that religious detractors of the series hammer on, but that€™s a debate we€™ll leave to them). We noted above that Muggles wouldn€™t take too well to the idea that there were other sentient creatures in the world. But give them the proof that ghosts exist, and that wizards have the choice to either become one or €œgo on,€ and the holy wars will begin. The existence of such things is anathema to their belief systems, and they won€™t take kindly to having those proven incorrect. If their religion does allow for ghosts and an afterlife, it€™s almost certain it won€™t match the wizarding world€™s version.
