Harry Potter: 10 Weird Rules A Student At Hogwarts Must Follow
7. Houses Have To Stick To Their Own Common Rooms
Although it might make for some excellent merchandising and a great chance for viewers to feel involved in the world by finding where they'd fit into it, the house sorting system is absurd.
Governing your students based on their personality attributes can cause some significant damage to a young mind. It essentially forges a self-fulfilling prophecy whereby they fall further and further into the roles the professors paint for them.
To make matters worse, the school seems to strictly enforce a law that forbids other members of the houses from entering others' common rooms. As discussed in the last entry, you need a password to get into your own space, and it's strictly designed to be kept secret to ensure no other houses can get in.
Doesn't that just seem ridiculous? What if you are very close friends with a person from another house? What if you and your sibling are sorted differently? There's no way that Hogwarts students can intermingle in comfort, which is the final nail in the coffin when it comes to ensuring the pupils maintain the personalities of their respective houses.
