Harry Potter: 10 Worst Characters Introduced After The Philosopher's Stone

Hagrid's half-brother, Grawp, was a character who got much more development in the books. Hagrid, having formed a relationship with Olympe Maxime, the giantess Head of Beauxbatons Academy, visited the giants to try and win their favour, ahead of the upcoming war.

While at the giant's camp, he met Grawp who turned out to be his half-brother. The poor giant was bullied due to his short size and Hagrid decided to bring him back to England with him. Grawp wasn't happy and proved to be difficult but when he settled into the forbidden Forest, Hagrid taught him manners and basic language skills.

The giant became much more friendly and began to express emotion and even showed sympathy for Hagrid at Dumbledore's funeral. He went on to lead a fight against the giants in the Battle of Hogwarts and ultimately survived.

In the films though, we only see Grawp in Order of the Phoenix, and quite briefly at that. He's simply reduced to a small plot point and a reason to terrorise Umbridge, rather than being a character with some growth and depth like he deserved.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
