Harry Potter: 10 Worst Things Snape Ever Did

9. Insulted Hermione’s Appearance

Those who’ve only seen the movies won’t be familiar with this one, but midway through The Goblet of Fire, Snape’s mistreatment of students hits an all-time low.

Following a brief duel between Harry and Malfoy, the latter unintentionally hits Hermione with a hex that causes her front teeth to grow alarmingly fast. She does her best to cover it up, but before long, her teeth have grown past her chin.

Snape, far from taking pity on Hermione, is simply horrible to her:

“Malfoy got Hermione!” said Ron. “Look!”

…Snape looked coldly at Hermione, then said, “I see no difference."

In the books, Rowling frequently describes Hermione as having large front teeth, so Snape’s comment is purposefully designed to ridicule this aspect of her appearance. It’s hardly surprising Harry and Ron start shouting at the Potions Master, but unfortunately, they’re both given detention.
