6. Refused To Listen To Sirius’s Story
The Prisoner of Azkaban introduces Sirius Black to the Potterverse. The plot explores his relationship with Harry’s mother and father and the motivation behind his escape from Azkaban.
In the final act of the story, Sirius starts to tell his tale whilst in the Shrieking Shack, but midway through his explanation, Snape turns up and puts a stop to the proceedings.
Harry – keen to learn the truth – is angry about Snape’s intervention:
“You’re pathetic!’ Harry yelled. ‘Just because they made a fool out of you at school you won’t even listen."
Harry is spot on with this statement. Adolescent feuds don’t justify the miscarriage of justice, and Snape should have had the maturity to let Sirius speak. Luckily, the Potions Master is soon taken down and the truth about Sirius is revealed at last.
