Harry Potter: 5 Slytherins Who Were Heroes Not Villains

2. Regulus Black

Like most of the Black family, Regulus grew up with the belief that being a pure-blooded wizard was something to be immensely proud of. He saw half-bloods and Muggle-borns as inferior beings and such an ideology was the catalyst for him joining the Death Eaters.

However, Regulus did not take to his new position. Though the details of his change of heart are not known, he soon came to realise that Voldemort – far from being admirable – was someone who needed to be stopped. He then found out about the Dark Lord’s Horcruxes and discovered the location of Slytherin’s locket.

He travelled with Kreacher to the cave and successfully stole said locket, but Kreacher was the only one to return to Grimmauld Place. Regulus was dragged beneath the water by a horde of inferi and never seen again. Such a death is one of the most tragic moments in the Harry Potter series. Had Regulus survived, he would have been a valuable asset to the Order of the Phoenix.

It’s a shame such a fascinating redemption arc wasn’t brought to the big screen because it would have made for a gripping sequence if it was executed correctly.
