Harry Potter New TV Show: 25 Castings That Must Happen
16. Bill Nighy As Argus Filch
As mentioned earlier, the brilliant Bill Nighy was squandered by the films. This TV reboot would be a good chance to give one of the finest British actors of his generation a good, meaty role in the Wizarding World, and he'd be very well-suited for Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch.
After all, Nighy is an incredibly funny actor (Love Actually, anyone?) and he also does a good villain: in the 2014 box-office bomb I, Frankenstein, his villainous turn was the only saving grace.
Furthermore, as he has shown in films like Notes on a Scandal, The Limehouse Golem, and Living, Nighy is an outstanding dramatic actor, and if the TV show chose to delve into Filch's rather sad backstory in the books (he's unable to use magic despite being born into a wizarding family), then this would be an ideal casting choice to turn Filch into a more sympathetic villain than he was in the films.
