Harry Potter New TV Show: 25 Castings That Must Happen
1. Nick Frost As Hagrid
When the films were in pre-production, JK Rowling was asked about dream casting choices and she said "Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid" in one breath. And indeed, the late, great Robbie Coltrane was a perfect bit of casting for the lovable gentle giant.
So, all together now, in one breath: "Nick Frost as Hagrid."
Seriously, if they don't cast Nick Frost as Hagrid, what are they even doing?
Frost would be perfect. He's such a warm, hilarious actor who, in films such as the Cornetto Trilogy, deftly infused his comedy chops with a real sense of pathos, even when playing depraved characters like Ed in Shaun of the Dead. He can also be hard and intimidating when he needs to be, and he also looks exactly right for Hagrid.
He can also grow a magnificent beard too, which is arguably the most important Hagrid characteristic of all.
