Heath Ledger: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Dan Carter - Candy

Even as his star rose in America, Ledger would still return to his native Australia for the occasional project. The last one is a mixed bag, feeling rather unoriginal, but it features a convincing performance from Ledger. The idea behind the film is quite interesting - it charts a couple€™s wrestling with heroin use in three aptly titled segments, heaven (yay drugs), earth (ooh, this is hard - let€™s quit) and hell (we only bonded over heroin, let€™s break up) - but Trainspotting this ain€™t. The actors never become too disheveled and the film doesn't have much insight into the world of drugs. Thankfully it still works on a relationship level, with Ledger and Abbie Cornish working convincingly as a couple. Likable as a drug-using poet and convincingly taking us through addiction and recovery, Candy is a great example of how Ledger could elevate an otherwise average film.
