Hellboy Reboot: 8 Things We Want From The Big Red Revival
6. A Mature Reboot
Mike Mignola and Neil Marshall have promised us an R-rated movie with plenty of blood and guts, which sounds like a good fit for Hellboy, but it's important for the reboot to get the tone right.
For all of their dark undercurrents, Guillermo Del Toro's films were often lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek, so a more grounded approach would help set the Hellboy reboot apart from its predecessors.
Marshall's roots are in horror, which bodes well since the Dark Horse comics contain adult and Lovecraftian themes, but nobody wants a gratuitous gore fest.
Dialling up the horror to 11 is a good move, providing Hellboy remains a character-driven affair. This is a fine line the comics manage to tread so effortlessly.
