Hello Sidney. Remember me... well actually I'm still dead.

BLOODY DISGUSTING SAY THE STORY IS FALSE. The Weinteins have not officially greenlit SCREAM 4.

BLOODY DISGUSTING SAY THE STORY IS FALSE. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHEN IT SAID THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY BLOG, AND I HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT. SCREAM 4 HAS NOT BEEN GREENLIT AND IT'S NOT IN DEVELOPMENT. I love all three SCREAM movies in very different ways. The first film in 1996 hit me at a perfect time when I was really going through an 80's horror fest. The films of Wes Craven, John Carpenter and the FRIDAY THE 13th movies were on constant repeat on my VHS but then came SCREAM, a movie where characters know about horror movies. It was absolutely fascinating. They knew all the rules and almost could sense they were in a horror movie, which made the scares even more frightening and real. SCREAM 2 I like too. It's not quite as good as the original but the writing in that film is superb and how they manage to incorporate so many interesting characters should be commended. SCREAM 3, easily the weakest of the three but what I remember the most about it was just how dark and cynical the movie was. It was easily the meanest of the three and it was pretty cool to seem them bring back up plot points from the original. Despite SCREAM 3 being written as the last movie in the series, the fact that Sidney (Neve Campbell) didn't die, or didn't turn into the serial killer meant that there would always be talk of a further sequel. Over the last 8 years, at least 1 story per 12 months turns up online about a fourth film. It's 2007, and it's time for this year's announcement of a SCREAM 4. This time it comes from the Weinsteins Company's Blog (yes I didn't realise they had one either) where a statement gives us an update on the franchise. It seems official this time...

"The Scream franchise has become a cult classic. Together, all three movies have grossed over $300 million at the box office, just in the United States alone. The fans have been asking for a 4th Scream movie for years and we're finally giving it to them. As far as details go, we're only in the planning stages and we may not get around to it [Scream 4] for quite some time, but rest assured, it will happen." Will the original cast be returning? "We've just entered the planning stages of Scream 4. There isn't even a script right now. Only time will tell."
Without a script means that we are some years away from this movie happening. SCREAM 3 to me, just seemed like the perfect send off to a series that just feels so 90's, and it should stay in that decade. Slasher films aren't really the thing anymore, and yes I'll agree they weren't at the time when the original was released, I just don't see how a second revival can work. Wes Craven, would he return to the series? Does he have anything else left to say in this franchise? Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette's careers have hardly gone anyway either, I wouldn't rule out those three returning. They always speak of how much fun they had shooting a fourth movie. Not much else to say really is there? We had to expect it with FRIDAY THE 13th, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and HALLOWEEN making returns. SCREAM 4... too soon to return to a franchise for nostalgia, or too late to add another sequel to a series we no longer care about?
