Hellraiser Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
1. The Cenobite Designs Will Divide Fans
Though Bruckner and his production team are to be commended for not just rehashing the same old Cenobite designs, the new look for the extra-dimensional beings is sure to split fans straight down the middle.
The new Cenobite designs are certainly grotesque in their own way - particularly the emphasis on flayed flesh - yet some will inevitably feel that the film has strayed too far from their iconic original style.
Some of the redesigns have an overly artificial, plastic-y feel to them, evoking the feel of upmarket Hellraiser cosplay rather than something that would believably exist within this world.
Ultimately the new designs don't break the movie by any means, though they're also not an unqualified success, with mileage guaranteed to vary wildly among the fanbase.
These gripes accepted, though, here's why you should absolutely check the movie out regardless...
