The Hobbit: 10 Things You May Have Missed In The Battle Of The Five Armies

8. Galadriel's Powers (Finally) Revealed

Before he became a purveyor of high-fantasy epics, Peter Jackson was renowned as a horror director. And in The Lord Of The Rings some of those traits hung around, not least of all the jump scare. Everyone remembers leaping out of their skin when Bilbo went all Gollum in Rivendell, but The Fellowship Of The Ring offered up another shock moment when Galadriel hints at her full power in Lothlórien. A character who shows incredible restraint through the rest of the six movies, it's a striking reminder of how overwhelming a being she is. This is further reaffirmed in The Battle Of The Five Armies, where she uses the exact power she previously alluded to when banishing Sauron from Dol Guldur. Now with the whole Middle-Earth saga finished, it's clear why she was so fearful of what she's be capable of. On top of calling back to the earlier films, this moment is also one of the more subtle direct ties to the original trilogy; from Elrond's commands to take her to Lothlórien, it's clear using her elven energy was why she was in the mystical woods in the first place.
