Holmes & Watson Review: 2 Ups & 6 Downs
2. It Wastes An Incredible Cast
It's hard to think of a movie this badly reviewed with a cast this great since the similarly shambolic Movie 43.
Counting the incredible likes of Ralph Fiennes, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Lauren Lapkus, Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon and Hugh Laurie among its supporting cast, it is an embarrassment of riches for a movie that's basically just an embarrassment.
Granted, the film would be even worse without their contributions, but for the most part the roles are pure duds, evoking the easy whiff of a fast paycheck given the conspicuously low number of scenes most of the actors (especially Fiennes) are actually in.
Even accepting the obvious financial incentive, though, it's baffling that so many A+ performers were roped into such a blatantly low-rent project.
Thankfully the actors don't disgrace their dignity too much, but they'll most likely appreciate that few will still remember this one in a couple of weeks.
