Home Alone 1 And 2: 20 Easter Eggs, References & In-Jokes
5. The Traps Are Heavily Foreshadowed
In Home Alone Kevin appears to set up all of his painful traps in less than hour, so he obviously had a few of team in mind already. It probably helped his organisation that many of the traps were heavily foreshadowed throughout the movie, with Peters dad inspiring the first one. His father complains to him about leaving micro machines on the floor in case people slip on them which Harry and Marv find out the hard way and the Iron falling down the laundry chute is set up when Kevin shoots some toys down it earlier in the film. Icing the steps he gets from Old Man Marley constantly salting the neighbourhood, and other handy props like the BB gun, his fathers fish hooks, the firecrackers and Buzzs pet spider are introduced early on; so he has plenty of tools on hand to maim any uninvited guests.
