Home Alone 1 And 2: 20 Easter Eggs, References & In-Jokes

2. Home Alone's Poster Was Based On A Famous Painting

The scene where Kevin has a bad reaction to trying aftershave for the first time (I still react that way) became so iconic it was used for the poster too; but there was another, more cultured influence on it. Der Schrei Der Natur €“ or €œThe Scream€ to you and me €“ is a painting by artist Edvard Munch, and it rates along the Mona Lisa as one of the most famous paintings in the world. The unsettling picture shows a sexless figure screaming against the backdrop of a blood-red sky, with the artist intending to express the scream of nature itself. Combined with the image of Culkin, a parody poster was born; one where an abandoned child is screaming because two men are breaking into his home. Munch would be so proud.
