20 Wild Horror Movie Casting Choices We Almost Got
10. Sarah Michelle Gellar - Alice (Resident Evil)
Just as her tenure on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was wrapping up, Sarah Michelle Gellar was approached to star in Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation of video game Resident Evil.
Gellar was reportedly Anderson's first choice to play heroine Alice, and though the I Know What You Did Last Summer star was said to be interested, she ultimately turned the part down due to the brief nudity requirements at the start and end of the film.
Anderson of course ended up casting Milla Jovovich in the role, who while not nearly as famous as Gellar, nevertheless propelled the franchise to huge success in her own right, spawning five direct sequels with a total box office of over $1.2 billion.
As kick-ass as Gellar is, it isn't easy to picture her playing Alice at all, and Jovovich just seems like a far better fit.
Plus, Jovovich's casting led to her and Anderson eventually getting married and starting a family, so everything basically worked out for the best.
