20 Wild Horror Movie Casting Choices We Almost Got
9. Tom Hanks - Jacob Singer (Jacob's Ladder)
Jacob's Ladder is one of the most haunting horror films of the 1990s, in large part due to Tim Robbins' evocative performance as Jacob Singer, a Vietnam War veteran who struggles to uncover the secrets of his traumatic past.
But director Adrian Lyne apparently sought out America's Dad for the part first - Tom Hanks himself.
This would've marked quite a gear shift for Hanks, who spent the latter part of the '80s making a name for himself in a bevy of comedy roles, and had little in the way of serious horror to his name.
Hanks reportedly ended up turning Jacob's Ladder down to star in the black comedy Bonfire of the Vanities instead, and while Hanks would've absolutely been a great pick for Jacob, Robbins is incredible as the lead regardless.
Considering that both Hanks and Robbins went on to have incredible careers throughout the '90s and beyond, it's impossible to feel bad for anyone here.
