20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

10. Candyman (2021)

1992's Candyman was a decent success at the box office, though became more of a word-of-mouth pop-culture hit on home video in the years that followed.

It was succeeded by two sequels in 1995 and 1999, the latter going direct-to-video and neither recapturing the atmosphere or trenchant social commentary of the original - though still benefitting from the presence of the late, great Tony Todd.

That was it for Candyman for an entire 22 years, though, until writer-producer Jordan Peele teamed up with director Nia DaCosta for a legacy sequel to the original 1992 film.

Though shot in 2019, the new Candyman was delayed a year due to the pandemic, and therefore didn't release until 2021, where it was a moderate critical and box office triumph.

There's been little serious discussion about a fifth Candyman film, though, and with the recent passing of Tony Todd, perhaps it's a fitting time to call a wrap on the series.
