20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made
15. Blair Witch
It was a fair assumption that the barnstorming success of 1999's The Blair Witch Project would lead to a glut of sequels until the IP was run into the ground, though the next year's Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 - which bafflingly ditched the found footage format - proved so alienating that it basically killed the series in record time.
Even with found footage peaking in popularity in the late 2000s/early 2010s, it wasn't until 2016 that a third film, simply titled Blair Witch, was unleashed upon the world.
And while returning to the style that made the original such an eerily immersive hit, many felt that its derivative storytelling and lacklustre conclusion just weren't worth the 16-year wait.
It also underperformed at the box office despite its low budget, leaving fans waiting a full decade for a fourth film, which was recently announced to be in early development.
