20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

16. Final Destination Bloodlines

It's decidedly ironic that the fourth entry into the Final Destination franchise was intended to be the last one, enough that New Line Cinema even titled it "The Final Destination."

But in the grand tradition of "final" horror sequels that aren't, Final Destination 5 ended up releasing less than two years later in 2011.

Despite scoring the series' best reviews and box office at the time, a sequel surprisingly wasn't rushed into development, and it wasn't until 2019 that New Line officially announced Final Destination 6.

Yet creative struggles to crack the script combined with the pandemic and industry strike action caused progress to continually stall until Final Destination Bloodlines finally came out last year, 14 years after the previous one.

But that protracted development clearly paid off, as Bloodlines scored by far the best reviews and mightiest box office of the series, confirming just how much pent-up demand there was for it to return.

Thankfully Final Destination 7 is already pencilled in for a May 12, 2028 release, so hopefully fans will never have to endure quite such an absurd sabbatical once again.
