The absurdly underseen 2014 New Zealand horror film Housebound follows Kylie (Morgana O'Reilly), a troubled young woman who is sentenced to house arrest at her mother's home.

Kylie then faces mounting evidence that there's a malevolent supernatural presence haunting the house, on top of the eventual revelation that her clinical psychologist, Dennis (Cameron Rhodes), is actually a serial killer who attempts to kill Kylie and her mother Miriam (Rima Te Wiata).

Yet the finale reveals that the aforementioned supernatural presence is actually just Eugene (Ryan Lampp), a totally harmless introverted man who lives in the walls of Kylie's house and ends up helping her kill Dennis.

The delicious cherry on top is that, at film's end, everyone has recovered, Kylie's ankle bracelet is removed, and Eugene has even been warmly welcomed into the familial unit.

That's quite the neat ending for a story that, while blackly comedic, had our protagonist faced with so many giant red flags in her midst.
