How Avengers: Endgame Completely Changes The MCU

4. The Black Widow Movie Is Definitely A Prequel

If there was one hero nobody really expected to die in Endgame, it was Black Widow. With a new movie lined up and everyone so focused on Cap and Iron Man, Natasha kind of slipped under the radar, which made it all the more devastating when she sacrificed herself so the Avengers could acquire the Soul Stone in the latest film.

Consequently, that announced movie that's shooting later in 2019 absolutely has to be a prequel. That was long-rumoured anyway, as there's so much of Black Widow's movie backstory that's only been hinted at throughout the MCU and not properly explored, and it would act as the perfect final hurrah for a character who probably deserved her own solo movie five years ago.

This does throw up some questions about what Marvel's grand plan for the next saga is going to be though. Phase Three is wrapping up properly with Spider-Man: Far From Home, presumably in a similar fashion as Ant-Man bookended Phase Two with a low-key, self-contained flick that didn't have huge ramifications on the rest of the universe.

However, Black Widow will be the next film to release after that, and if it is indeed a prequel (which it will be unless Marvel are planning on bringing Nat back from the dead), it could mean that fans will be left wondering what the next big universe-wide story is going to be for a while yet.
