How Disney Should Make Indiana Jones 5
5. Use Practical Special Effects
Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Temple of Doom earned Oscars for their special effects, while Crystal Skull's CGI monkeys and gophers failed to impress the academy.
They didn't exactly win over the fans either, with the film's over-reliance on computerised visuals shattered the all-important illusion of tangibility.
While some CG is to expected in any modern Hollywood blockbuster, Indiana Jones doesn't need it in huge quantities given that it's set in the real world; so the upcoming sequel should use it sparingly, in conjunction with traditional FX techniques.
Minimising green screens and soundstages would help retain the sense of wonder the original trilogy is celebrated for - it spirited cinemagoers away to real locations, populated by creatures with an actual physical presence.
