How Freddy Krueger Became A Joke In 10 Easy Quotes

6. €œHey, Danny, better not dream and drive!€ €“ Part 5 (1989)

Although it€™s easily the most surreal of the series, A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child offers very little beyond some striking, well-crafted images. There€™s some stuff about a baby€™s dreams, a mystical nun, and a superhero version of Freddy. You may assume this is as wacky as the series gets, but then they made part 6. One of our returning heroes from part 4, Dan, is tragically killed in a nightmare car chase through dreamland. Strangely, he crashes first in his truck but survives only to get on a motorcycle and crash again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice and I kind of deserve it. Freddy has a snarky remark about the dangers of dreaming and driving which really has no bearing over Dan as a character other than the fact he was carrying a bottle of wine for his girlfriend. Get it? Drinking and dreaming are interchangeable. The rest of the film is filled with equally disappointing one-liners and so Krueger continuous on his downward spiral. Not only is he no longer scary, he€™s no longer funny.

I have a keen, almost obsessive fascination with the macabre. It has lead me from a quiet life growing up in a small town to where I am now; creating horrific works about horrific things in many different mediums including films, short stories and essays. I live life by a simple motto: learn to like the dark, cause eventually, it'll come for all of us (lightening flashes and thunder claps)... but it ain't so bad.
