How Marvel Could Bring Netflix Heroes Into MCU Phase 4
1. The Punisher Returns
It seems Marvel fans are divided on this one. While many want The Punisher to make the jump from Netflix, fans are also concerned that the vigilante anti-hero will be watered down to fit into Disney’s family friendly MCU.
While recent Marvel Cinematic Universe projects like Black Widow and Hawkeye haven’t held back on the brutal fight scenes, it’s clearly not up to the bone-crunching, blood-splattering levels of violence seen in Netflix spin-off series like The Punisher.
Actor Jon Bernthal recently spoke about his desire to return to The Punisher, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he would only come back if it was ‘done right.’
As Bernthal explained:
“It needs to be a level of darkness. I think if there’s any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character. This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.”
Of course, if The Punisher ever gets the Disney+ treatment, it is almost guaranteed that Daredevil will make an appearance, but it remains to be seen if their previous encounters will be acknowledged or if they will be starting anew.
