How Marvel Should Do A MCU Movies & Netflix Crossover

3. A Coming Of Age Spider-Man Film, With Wilson Fisk

Spider-Man Wilson Fisk
Marvel

Today, the character of Wilson Fisk may be more synonymous with Daredevil, but he originally started out life as a Spider-Man villain. He would remain that way for a good few years, until shifting his focus to the Man Without Fear and, well, making it his number one priority in life to mess with his life.

Interspersed throughout Fisk's long-running feud with Daredevil were a series of clashes with the wall-crawler, and Marvel could replicate the same approach on the big screen. The most obvious thing preventing that from happening? Well, tonally, the characters of Spider-Man and Wilson Fisk couldn't be further apart in the MCU; Vincent D'Onofrio's character is a monstrous mobster, so picturing him squaring off against a still young Peter Parker is - at first - a difficult prospect to contemplate.

Although that may be the case, it's important to remember the thematic foundations of this new Spider-Man trilogy, which Spidey actor Tom Holland believes will end with Peter's graduation. He's already dealt with his fair share of challenges, but eventually Pete must come of age, and introducing him to another side of New York he didn't know about - potentially with Matt Murdock as his mentor, or even without - would encapsulate the theme wonderfully.

Spidey shouldn't have to be dour, but seeing the character adjust from his High School roots to rise against a more human threat could be devastating, exhilarating, and provide the perfect springboard to kickstart a whole new era of Peter Parker's life.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
