How Marvel Should Do A MCU Movies & Netflix Crossover

2. The New Avengers

Luke Cage Jessica Jones
Netflix

Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are two other Netflix heroes who could easily work alongside their big screen counterparts, both in terms of personality, and their gifted skill-set.

Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter are both fantastic in their respective roles, and though they're yet to tie the knot in the MCU, the seeds of their winning partnership have already been planted, and will likely sprout in seasons 2 and 3 of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones respectively. After that, however, would it not make sense for Marvel to capitalise on their chemistry, and introduce them to Earth's Mightiest Heroes?

At the moment, Jessica and Luke couldn't be further from the Avengers, and Jones herself has long derided the theatrics associated with super-heroics. In the context of a post-Sokovia, post-Infinity War climate, however, there's scope for both Luke and Jones to spearhead a new version of the Avengers - one far more in tune with the Marvel public than its predecessor.

As you can imagine, there's already a precedent in the comics for Jones and Cage to join at least one kind of the Avengers. They did so from 2005-2012, and they could easily do so again in a different format, just as the Avengers gear up for a new era, and deal with the devastating effects of Thanos' snap.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
