How They Should Have Made Ghostbusters III

3. Being Scary, As Well As Funny

While thought of as a relatively goofy comedy, Ghostbusters is still surprisingly effective in the scares department. The morphing library ghost, Gozer’s vicious dog minions, and Sigourney Weaver's possession could all potentially occupy any straight horror film out there, strictly because they were treated as genuine, intimidating threats.

This is the key to what makes it a successful horror-comedy, and any sequel should follow suit. Other than Slimer, the only comedy comes from its human characters, and an alarming villain maintains the drama; this also saves the movie from becoming overly wacky or farcical. Be it demons, ghosts, monsters or zombies, they should all be gross and fearsome.

In relation to this, they should have refrained from looking too cartoony, and only have been CG where appropriate.
